Share update on current and future capital projects and initiatives

Issaquah, WALocal News

City officials in Issaquah provided updates on key capital projects, including the Sycamore Sewer Extension and the Issaquah Creek Floodplain Study. The sewer extension will replace failing septic systems in flood-prone areas, with a design and permitting phase set for 2024-2025 and construction beginning in 2026. This project is compliant with the city's Sewer System Plan policies and will only require connections when existing systems fail. The floodplain study seeks to update FEMA maps and assess potential channel migration hazards, with updates anticipated in 2026. Funded by the King County Flood Control District, the study aims to prioritize flood risk reduction strategies and evaluate the causes of flooding.

The project outcomes focus on habitat benefits, flood mitigation, and protecting infrastructure. Residents will have opportunities to participate in floodplain restoration efforts, facilitated by the city. City officials remain committed to enhancing community safety and infrastructure resilience through these initiatives.
