Sister Cities International recognized Issaquah’s Sister City Commission for its significant humanitarian response to the earthquakes in Chefchaouen, Morocco. The Issaquah community raised more than $65,000 and provided over 60 boxes filled with clothing, medical supplies, and other essential items. These efforts were critical in delivering both immediate relief and support for long-term recovery in the earthquake-affected area. The acknowledgment highlights the vital role of community involvement in international aid initiatives. Issaquah has been partnered with Chefchaouen since 2006 and Sunndal, Norway, since 1991, reflecting a commitment to fostering global relationships.

The humanitarian relief efforts exemplify how local communities can mobilize resources and support during crises. Sister Cities International aims to build people-to-people connections worldwide, emphasizing the collaborative spirit of sister cities. This recognition serves as a reminder of the impact that dedicated community members can have in times of need.
