From the City Curb Waste by Participating in Plastic Free July
The City of Issaquah promotes Plastic Free July, encouraging residents to reduce single-use plastics as part of the global initiative against plastic pollution. Plastic constitutes 15% of King County's waste, with less than 20% being recycled, highlighting a critical need for action. Simple lifestyle changes, such as using reusable shopping bags and bottles, can significantly diminish plastic waste. Local policies, including a statewide ban on single-use plastic bags and Issaquah’s Ordinance for recyclable serviceware, aim to mitigate this issue. Recology King County has implemented AI technology at its Material Recovery Facility to enhance plastic recovery and recycling efforts.
The Recycling Reform Act further supports sustainable practices by mandating increased recycled content in packaging. Residents are encouraged to adopt one habit at a time, fostering a culture of sustainability. Together, these efforts aim to protect the environment and reduce plastic waste in the community.
