Irvine CONNECT Shuttle Expansion

Irvine, CALocal News

The Irvine CONNECT shuttle program, launched last April, has gained popularity among residents, prompting the City Council to continue the service. Operating from 6 am to 8 pm on weekdays and 8 am to 10 pm on weekends, the shuttle connects various local destinations with a 20-minute frequency. The Council's unanimous vote on April 22 was accompanied by a 4-2 vote directing staff to develop a budget for three new routes. The first proposed expansion targets Northwood High School and surrounding communities, while the second route seeks to link residents to key locations like the Marketplace and UC Irvine. A third route would connect the Yale-Barranca and Jamboree-UCI routes along Barranca Parkway.

Additionally, the Council voted to explore a fourth route to the Great Park. The continued development of the shuttle service highlights the city's commitment to enhancing local transportation options. The Irvine CONNECT program reflects broader trends in urban mobility and community accessibility.
