During his recent State of the City address, Irvine Mayor Larry Agran articulated a vision for making Irvine the "safest, smartest, greenest, healthiest, and kindest city in America. " Despite already being recognized as the "Safest City" in the nation according to FBI violent crime statistics, Agran sees opportunities for improvement in public safety. Initiatives announced include lowering speed limits on nearly 100 streets and calling for enhanced traffic enforcement by the Irvine Police Department. These measures are designed to crack down on dangerous driving behaviors such as speeding, street racing, and drunk driving. The Mayor is also addressing the growing concerns surrounding e-bike incidents, proposing regulations that would include licensing and enforcement of local ordinances.

Agran's commitment to public safety reflects a broader strategy to create a safer environment for Irvine residents.
