Council Directs City Staff to Analyze Ways to Expand Irvines Free Shuttle Service

Irvine, CALocal News

Last April, the City of Irvine launched the Irvine CONNECT shuttle, a free public bus service designed to improve access for residents to vital locations like parks, schools, and hospitals. Operating on weekdays from 6 am to 8 pm and on weekends from 8 am to 10 pm, the shuttle boasts a frequency of every 20 minutes, making it a convenient option for commuters. Currently, it services approximately 70 stops, including key educational institutions and healthcare facilities, which has contributed to its rising popularity. In light of this increased ridership, the City Council voted unanimously last week to support Councilmember Kathleen Treseder's motion to explore ways to expand the shuttle's service area and operational hours. Recommendations from city staff are anticipated in April for further council discussion.

The real-time tracking feature enhances the user experience, allowing passengers to plan their trips more efficiently. This initiative underscores the city's commitment to improving public transportation and addressing residents' needs. The Irvine CONNECT shuttle is positioning itself as an essential service that fosters community connectivity.
