Community Feedback Requested on the Citys Draft Climate Action Adaptation Plan

Irvine, CALocal News

The Irvine City Council has released a draft of its Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP) for community review and feedback. This comprehensive plan, developed over several years, aims to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prepare for climate impacts, particularly wildfires. Importantly, the CAAP sets ambitious goals but does not approve or fund specific projects, which will require separate reviews. The City has proactively undertaken several climate initiatives, including expanding the free Irvine CONNECT bus service and enhancing protected bikeways. Additionally, the Mayor's tree planting program aims to improve air quality and provide shade, while a proposed rooftop solar and battery storage initiative seeks to lower electricity bills and meet carbon reduction targets.

The draft CAAP is now available for community input, which can be submitted until October 3rd at 5 PM. This engagement reflects the city's commitment to involving residents in shaping its climate strategy. The CAAP represents a significant step towards a sustainable future for all Irvine residents.
