Beckman High School Students Provide Free Piano Lessons for Underprivileged Youth

Irvine, CALocal News

Four Beckman High School students—Bethany Cheung, Sophie Tsai, Andrea Lin, and Shannon Tsai—offer free piano lessons to underprivileged children through their nonprofit, Project Con Brio. They identified financial barriers that prevent many local kids from pursuing music education, prompting them to take action. Partnering with shelters like Thomas House Family Shelter and OC Rescue Mission, they provide quality instruction to those in need. The mission extends beyond teaching piano; it aims to empower children to read and explore music independently, fostering creativity and confidence. The student teachers craft lessons that blend traditional techniques with interactive games to reinforce learning.

For instance, they use Pictionary and mini paper basketball to teach note naming and treble staff reading. This initiative not only enriches musical education but also positively impacts the lives of underprivileged youth in Irvine. Support for Project Con Brio can help sustain and expand this vital program.
