Mayor Agrans Tree-Planting Project

Irvine, CALocal News

The Irvine Sustainability Commission recommended Mayor Larry Agran's Urban Forest Master Plan, proposing to plant 67,500 trees across the city. This initiative would effectively reduce the environmental impact equivalent to taking 84,000 vehicles off the road for one year. Agran envisions converting school blacktops and lawns into forested areas and adding trees to parks for shade and beauty. The plan encourages local businesses and Homeowner Associations to join the tree-planting effort. Additionally, the Sustainability Commission suggests educational outreach programs and tree giveaways in partnership with the Irvine Ranch Water District.

Agran also proposes establishing a tree nursery in the Great Park to engage the community, including children, in tree planting. The environmental benefits of this initiative include decreasing carbon footprints and improving air quality. By fostering community involvement, the project aims to create a greener, more sustainable Irvine.
