Keep Kids Safe at the Pool This Summer

Irvine, CALocal News

This summer, parents must prioritize children's safety in swimming pools by adopting essential protective measures. Regularly applying sunscreen before swimming helps prevent painful sunburns and reduces the risk of skin cancer later in life. To combat swimmer's ear, parents should use preventative ear drops after water exposure and ensure that children's ears are properly dried afterward. It's important to avoid swimming while sick, particularly for children with diarrhea, to minimize the risk of contaminating pools. Teaching children safe diving practices, such as entering the water feet-first, can prevent injuries in shallow areas.

Additionally, designating a trained water watcher can enhance safety by ensuring constant supervision. These steps not only protect children from immediate risks but also foster a positive swimming environment. By taking these precautions, parents can help their children enjoy the summer while staying safe in the water.
