The Citys Urban Forest Master Plan
Irvine ranks No. 1 in California and No. 2 in the U. S. for its park systems, according to the Public Land Trust’s ParkScore Index.
Mayor Larry Agran announced an ambitious goal to plant 67,500 trees over the next 30 years as part of a new Urban Forest Master Plan. This initiative aims to enhance shade, improve air quality, and support the city’s Climate Action Plan objectives. Proposed actions include repopulating the City’s Open Space Preserve with native oak trees and converting blacktop areas at schools into small forested spaces. Additional plans involve increasing tree coverage in parks and along major roadways. Residents can review the Urban Forest Master Plan and submit comments via email by July 18.
Their input is crucial to ensuring the plan aligns with community priorities. This effort reflects a broader commitment to sustainability and climate resilience in Irvine.
