Klickitat County Commissioners Hold Final Meeting of 2024

On December 31, 2024, the Klickitat County Commissioners held their final meeting of the year, which lasted just over 90 minutes and was missing one commissioner. Outgoing Commissioner Jacob Anderson shared his achievements during his term, emphasizing the rapid establishment of a new department and effective jail transitions. Chair Lori Zoller expressed enthusiasm for working with newly elected commissioners Ron Ihrig and Todd Andrews, who both highlighted their priorities for the upcoming year, especially regarding solar energy. The meeting's agenda included the final approval of an Aggregate Resources Overlay Zone, expanding gravel extraction land, and a public hearing on budget adjustments that garnered no public testimony. Following the meeting, a swearing-in ceremony took place for the new officials, including Klickitat County's first full-time coroner, Eric Anderson.

He emphasized his background in law enforcement and the importance of his role in investigating deaths outside hospitals. With new leadership in place, the commission aims to foster positive relationships and advance county initiatives. The first meeting of the new year is scheduled for January 7, 2025, where new strategies and goals will be discussed.

Klickitat County secured $618,000 in funding for courthouse rehabilitation, with a local match of $429,579. The grant, part of a competitive program from the Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation, aims to improve HVAC systems and jury facilities.
