Jail applies for grants

Goldendale, WALocal News

Klickitat County is actively working to secure state funding to improve conditions at its jail, with Public Health Director Erinn Quinn announcing a significant $2 million grant from Medicaid. This funding is aimed at enhancing medical services for inmates, allowing providers to bill Medicaid and facilitating the implementation of electronic medical records. New Corrections Department Director Bill Frantz shared his concerns regarding the transparency of jail operations, expressing caution about disclosing sensitive information in public meetings. He also reported ongoing staffing challenges, with the jail currently down two positions and additional medical leaves impacting operations. Despite supply chain issues affecting uniform patches, a local vendor was able to fulfill the county's needs promptly.

The county is also engaged in other community projects, such as replacing the ceiling in the Dallesport Community Center. These initiatives reflect a broader commitment to public health, safety, and community welfare in Klickitat County. Overall, the pursuit of state funding and proactive measures highlight the county's dedication to improving conditions for both inmates and residents.
