Rezoning, downtown park revamp, mosquito fogging on May 6 city agenda
The Fort Smith Board of Directors will meet on May 6 to deliberate on several important proposals affecting the community. Among the agenda items is a rezoning request for 721 N. Greenwood Ave. , shifting the property from Commercial Light to a Planned Zoning District, allowing for its use as a single-family residence. A public hearing will address the city’s Year 51 Community Development Block Grant and Year 32 HOME Investment Partnership budgets, alongside amendments to the 2025 operating budget.
The board will also consider placing a sales tax realignment measure on the 2030 ballot, aimed at reauthorizing city sales taxes. Another significant proposal involves a vote to potentially discontinue mosquito fogging operations, which has been managed by the Streets & Traffic Control Department. Revitalization efforts for Garrison Park will move forward, costing only $8,520. 97 from city funds, with the remainder covered by the Central Business Improvement District. The project will reuse existing infrastructure to enhance drainage and minimize expenses.
The meeting is open to the public and will take place at the Blue Lion in downtown Fort Smith.
