ARDOT to break ground on Highway 112 expansion project

Fort Smith, ARLocal News

The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) will expand Highway 112 in Fayetteville, widening it from two to four lanes over 1. 44 miles between Truckers Drive and Howard Nickell Road. The $43 million project includes three roundabouts, two turnaround locations, and a pedestrian tunnel, funded by federal and state resources, along with a partnership with the city of Fayetteville. ARDOT Public Information Officer Dave Parker confirmed that construction is slated to begin in early 2026, with winter weather causing delays. He emphasized that inflation and rising construction costs complicate project financing.

This expansion marks the first of eight planned projects aimed at extending four lanes for 18 miles along Highway 112, significantly improving traffic flow in the area. Parker stated, “Without that partnering, it would be more difficult, more weight on us. ” The groundbreaking ceremony is set for 11 a. m. at the ARDOT Maintenance Office in Fayetteville and is open to public attendance.

This initiative highlights the ongoing efforts to enhance local infrastructure and address growing transportation needs.
