UAFS expands Advanced Manufacturing Lab with state-of-the-art automation tech
The University of Arkansas–Fort Smith has taken a significant step in manufacturing education by installing new robotics and automation systems in its Advanced Manufacturing Lab. Funded by over $5. 7 million in HIRED grants from the Arkansas Division of Higher Education and the Department of Commerce, the upgrades include two FAS-200 automated assembly systems and three ABB Cobot FlexTrainers. These systems will allow students to gain hands-on experience with real-world industrial processes. Dr.
Latisha Settlage highlighted the transformative impact of these installations on workforce development in the River Valley. In addition to robotics, the lab has recently incorporated technology for additive manufacturing and quality assurance. The next phase will introduce two RTS-200 robotics training systems and further Industry 4. 0 technologies, enhancing training opportunities. This investment not only supports student mobility but also aims to drive economic growth in the region.
UAFS's advancements solidify its role as a regional leader in preparing students for modern manufacturing careers.
