Robert Ballinger Jr. outpaces fathers early fundraising in Senate District 28 race

Fort Smith, ARLocal News

Robert “Bobby” Ballinger Jr. has raised over $68,000 for his Senate District 28 campaign, significantly exceeding his father's fundraising from the previous election cycle. He has taken a neutral stance on the controversial Franklin County prison project, asserting that it is a matter for local communities to decide. Incumbent Sen. Bryan King has criticized Ballinger's neutrality, suggesting that it is a tactic to secure campaign funds from supporters of the prison project.

Ballinger's campaign is backed by PACs associated with Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, with some donors having ties to the private prison sector. In his campaign statement, Ballinger expressed his intention to focus on constituents' needs rather than the prison project, which he claims does not directly affect his district. He challenged King’s voting record, arguing that the district needs a senator who actively engages with community issues. The Republican primary will take place on March 3, 2026.

Ballinger's early fundraising success positions him favorably as the campaign progresses.
