Rogers changes code enforcement policy, gives property owners seven days to fix violations

Fort Smith, ARLocal News

Rogers, Arkansas, has implemented a new code enforcement policy that requires property owners to resolve "unsanitary" and "unsightly" violations within a week or incur penalties. John Pesek, senior staff attorney for Rogers, mentioned that recent complaints have focused on properties with overgrown weeds and trash, indicating a pressing need for change. The updated enforcement strategy issues only one seven-day notice, after which city crews will intervene if the property owner fails to act. A $200 fine will apply for non-compliance, alongside the cost of cleanup services. This policy mirrors those in nearby cities, such as Lowell, which also enforces a seven-day notice before taking action.

Rogers provides a Code Enforcement Case Map on its website, allowing residents to track violations and enforcement statuses. The initiative aims to foster a cleaner, safer community by reducing visual blight. Such measures reflect a broader trend in Northwest Arkansas towards stricter property maintenance regulations.
