Second Hackett student arrested after shooting threat
A second Hackett student, a 14-year-old, was arrested for making shooting threats against Hackett High School, following the earlier arrest of a 15-year-old for similar charges. The threat, which suggested a mass shooting, was initially shared in a student group chat and quickly spread online, prompting an increased law enforcement presence at the school. Sebastian County Sheriff's Captain Philip Pevehouse noted there is currently no credible evidence that the student intended to follow through with the threat. Calls to the sheriff's office began around 10:30 a. m.
on Monday, just as students returned from the Labor Day holiday. Investigators, with the help of Homeland Security, traced the posts to a Hackett teenager within 10 hours. The messages originated from a spoofed number, but investigators managed to link them to a real account. Pevehouse reiterated the importance of addressing such threats, highlighting that children's safety is paramount. The community remains on alert as law enforcement continues to monitor the situation.
