New recreation center for people 50 and older in downtown Bentonville

Fort Smith, ARLocal News

Bentonville expects to complete a new adult recreation center for residents aged 50 and older by mid-2026. Situated at 215 SW A Street, the facility will cost an estimated $23 million, with $21. 5 million funded by a grant from the Walton Family Foundation. It will feature a lounge, fitness center, and classes tailored to older adults, including cooking and tax assistance. Parks and Recreation Director David Wright highlighted the need for a welcoming space, citing concerns from citizens who feel intimidated by younger, fitter individuals at other community centers.

The center aims to enhance the quality of life for active agers in Bentonville. Monthly fees will be $15 for local residents and $19 for those outside the city limits. Additionally, the center will create about seven full-time staff positions and offer volunteer opportunities. This initiative reflects Bentonville’s commitment to providing inclusive recreational spaces for its senior population.
