Northwest Arkansas officials prepare for possible flooding

Fort Smith, ARLocal News

Northwest Arkansas officials are bracing for heavy rains and potential flooding expected Thursday morning. Washington County Judge Patrick Deakins confirmed that preparations include having emergency staff and equipment ready for rapid deployment. Benton County communications director Melody Kwok highlighted that crews will be on standby to respond to emergencies and assist with swift water rescues. Both counties are closely monitoring areas prone to flooding, such as McNelly Road in Benton County and low-lying regions near creeks in Washington County. Deakins warned that driving through standing water can be perilous, particularly in rural areas where roads may wash out.

Residents are advised to carry extra supplies, including food and water, when navigating dangerous conditions. A Benton County road closure map will be available online, providing timely updates on road status. Washington County will also share road condition updates via social media.
