Their efforts were crucial for local authorities, who faced overwhelming challenges due to the disaster's scale, which led to over 1,800 fatalities and an estimated $125 billion in damages. Colonel Joe Lynch noted that the Guard's presence significantly enhanced local capabilities, allowing for better coordination among various agencies. This mobilization provided much-needed support, enabling local officials to focus on recovery, including clearing debris and restoring essential services. Retired Colonel Paul Jara recalled the impressive logistics coordination among military units, describing it as a “ballet” of equipment transfer.

The experience from Katrina led to improvements in the National Guard's preparedness for future domestic emergencies. The operation also highlighted the necessity for continuous interagency cooperation and infrastructure enhancements.
