Trump plans executive order to end mail-in voting Arkansas officials say state system differs

Fort Smith, ARLocal News

President Trump plans to sign an executive order to eliminate mail-in voting nationwide before the 2026 midterm elections. Arkansas election officials highlight that their absentee voting system is already distinct from states that automatically mail ballots to all voters. Washington County's election director, Jennifer Price, revealed that more than 2,000 absentee ballots were issued in the 2024 general election, largely for military personnel and overseas citizens. Unlike other states, Arkansas law requires voters to submit applications with valid reasons to receive absentee ballots. Price emphasized the strict verification process for absentee voting, stating that voters must confirm their registration and specify their reasons.

It remains unclear how Trump's proposed order would affect Arkansas's voting procedures. Any changes to absentee voting would need to come from the state level, as county officials do not independently decide on such matters. The Arkansas Secretary of State's Office was contacted for comment but was unavailable.
