On August 6, Sgt. Quornelius Radford, 28, opened fire at Fort Stewart, Georgia, injuring five soldiers before being subdued by fellow service members. The shooting occurred shortly before 11 a. m. at the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area, leading to a temporary lockdown of the base.

Radford was arrested at 11:35 a. m. , and officials confirmed he used a personal handgun, not a military firearm. All five injured soldiers are in stable condition, with two transported to a trauma center for treatment. The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and military officials have not speculated on possible reasons.

Radford had been stationed at Fort Stewart since 2022 and was not previously deployed to combat.
