Andrew James McGann scheduled to hear capital murder charges Friday morning

Fort Smith, ARLocal News

Andrew James McGann, 28, faces two counts of capital murder for allegedly stabbing Clinton and Cristen Brink while they were hiking at Devil's Den State Park in Arkansas. He is scheduled to appear in Washington County court Friday morning to hear the charges and have his bond set. McGann recently moved from Oklahoma for a teaching job in Springdale but had no prior contact with students or families. Law enforcement does not believe he knew the couple, who were attacked in front of their daughters, ages 7 and 9. The arrest occurred at Lupita's Beauty Salon and Barber Shop, where detectives confiscated evidence linked to the crime.

The vehicle associated with the attack matched a description provided by law enforcement. If convicted, McGann could face the death penalty, as Arkansas has 23 people currently on death row. Decisions regarding his potential sentence will unfold as the case progresses through the judicial system.
