Teacher accused of killing couple at Devil's Den worked in three states

Fort Smith, ARLocal News

Andrew James McGann is charged with the murders of Clinton and Cristen Brink at Devil's Den. The suspect held educator licenses across three states and taught at several schools, including Donald Elementary in Texas during the 2022-23 school year. He resigned from the Lewisville district amid classroom management concerns, although an internal investigation found no inappropriate behavior with students. In the following year, he taught fifth grade at Spring Creek Elementary in Oklahoma, passing all background checks. McGann later worked at Sand Springs Summer Schools before resigning to move out of state.

The Springdale Public Schools hired him for the 2025-26 school year, but he had not begun his employment at the time of his arrest. Superintendent Jared Cleveland expressed condolences and confirmed that McGann had not interacted with students or families. The incident raises questions about school hiring practices and background check procedures across states.
