UAFS and ATU-Ozark awarded federal TRIO Grants to aid first-gen, low-income students

The U. S. Department of Education renewed TRIO Student Support Services grants for Arkansas Tech University-Ozark and the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, providing a combined $4 million over five years. ATU-Ozark will receive $1. 3 million to assist 140 eligible students annually, offering academic tutoring, financial aid guidance, and career mentoring.

UAFS secured $2. 7 million, supporting nearly 300 students through its TRIO SSS and TRIO STEM programs, both of which provide essential academic and career services. The new funding cycle begins September 1, continuing support for first-generation and low-income students. Bethany Lucius, ATU-Ozark's director, highlighted the program's focus on mentorship and personal resources. Meanwhile, UAFS's TRIO SSS director expressed excitement about helping students overcome barriers to graduation.

The TRIO programs collectively serve a diverse range of bachelor’s degree students. Both institutions encourage eligible students to apply for these valuable resources.
