Former Poteau coach arrested on suspicion of embezzling 4,676 from McAlester schools

Fort Smith, ARLocal News

Forrest Mazey, 43, has been charged with felony embezzlement for allegedly misappropriating $4,676 from McAlester Public School. This charge adds to his legal troubles following a prior incident where he pointed a loaded handgun at an assistant coach during a school-sponsored retreat. According to a lawsuit filed by the assistant coach, Mazey approached him in a hot tub, taunted him, and shot the gun into the woods. He ultimately accepted a plea deal, resulting in a ninety-day suspended sentence for misdemeanor charges of reckless conduct and pointing a weapon. The embezzlement charge stems from accusations that Mazey fraudulently appropriated funds intended for school use.

40/29 News has sought comments from the school district but has not yet received a response. These incidents bring to light serious concerns regarding the conduct and oversight of school sports programs. Community members may demand further accountability and transparency from school officials moving forward.
