Teen center to open at Future School after federal funds reinstated

Fort Smith, ARLocal News

The Fort Smith Boys & Girls Clubs will launch its first teen-exclusive center on August 13, 2025, following the reinstatement of federal funding for the initiative. In partnership with Future School, the Teen Center will offer free services for students in grades 8-12, including homework help, mentorship, and college and career exploration. Earlier this month, the funding for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers was unexpectedly frozen, putting the program’s launch at risk. Advocacy efforts, involving over 23,000 emails and 3,200 phone calls, prompted federal officials to reverse the funding freeze. “This is more than just a win for Fort Smith—it’s a win for every teen who needs a safe place to be themselves,” stated Beth Presley, the organization’s CEO.

The center will provide a safe and engaging space, along with dinner and transportation for families at no cost. This initiative marks a significant milestone in the organization's 97-year history, as it is the first space designed exclusively for teens. Families interested in enrolling their teens should act quickly, as space is limited.
