Bentonville proposes solution for problematic intersection

Fort Smith, ARLocal News

Bentonville officials plan to transform a hazardous intersection into a roundabout to enhance traffic safety and efficiency. The intersection at Highway 12, Highway 279, and Vaughn Road has drawn complaints from residents, who describe it as a "traffic nightmare. " City staff engineer Cody Vaughn highlighted that roundabouts improve continuous traffic flow and safety, especially in areas with sufficient space. Public support emerged during a recent question-and-answer meeting, with resident Andrew Aggus expressing that any change would be an improvement. The city is currently in the planning phase, which involves right-of-way acquisitions and conducting an environmental study.

Community engagement remains a priority as officials gather feedback on the design. Once these steps are completed, the city anticipates starting construction in 2026. This roundabout project underscores Bentonville's commitment to enhancing local infrastructure.
