Kids construction camp builds skills, fun at Peak Innovation Center

The inaugural "Kids Construction Camp" at Fort Smith's Peak Innovation Center will occur on June 23, targeting students entering grades 4-6. This one-day camp, organized by the Greater Fort Smith Association of Home Builders, aims to introduce children to the construction trades through engaging, hands-on activities. Participants will collaborate on building derby racetracks designed by local builders, culminating in a friendly race. Local businesses and volunteers contribute to the event, with Arvest Bank providing lunch and Specialty Woodworks donating materials. One winning student from each grade will take home their completed track, and a second track will be displayed at the Bakery District.

"It’s all about sparking interest in the trades at an early age," said DeAnne Hankins, emphasizing the event's educational value. The camp runs from 9 a. m. to 2 p. m.
