Inmate dies at Sebastian County Detention Center

Juan Salazar-Lopez, 48, died last week at the Sebastian County Detention Center, where he was held for ICE due to a prior DWI arrest. He was taken into custody on May 5, with a bond set at $1,000. Deputies discovered him unresponsive in his cell, and he was subsequently pronounced dead at a local hospital. The Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office has stated that no foul play is suspected in his death. In accordance with standard procedures, Arkansas State Police is conducting an investigation into the incident.

The investigation aims to clarify the circumstances surrounding Salazar-Lopez's death. Once completed, the report will be submitted to the Sebastian County Prosecutor's Office for further assessment. This incident raises ongoing concerns about the treatment and conditions of detainees in detention facilities.
