City of Everett Streamside Yard program kicks off in May!

Everett, WALocal News

The City of Everett, in partnership with Snohomish Conservation District, will host workshops in May focused on Streamside Yard management, targeting property owners near streams. The sessions, scheduled for both virtual and in-person formats, aim to educate participants about managing invasive species, stream bank erosion, and seasonal flooding. Apryl Hynes, a senior public education specialist, noted that everyday activities can impact stream health, underscoring the importance of community stewardship. The city secured a grant to enhance vegetation and tree canopy along North and Swamp Creeks, which will help mitigate the negative effects of stormwater runoff. This runoff contributes to the pollution and degradation of local waterways, creating a pressing environmental concern.

Registrations for the workshops are available online and by phone, indicating strong community involvement in environmental issues. The Streamside Yard program is part of a broader initiative funded by the EPA Puget Sound Recovery National Program. This collaborative effort reflects Everett's dedication to environmental sustainability and public education.
