City of Everett Streamside Yard program kicks off in May!

Everett, WALocal News

The City of Everett, in collaboration with the Snohomish Conservation District, will launch Streamside Yard workshops starting May 3 to educate property owners on managing invasive species and stream health. The workshops will be held at the Everett Library and Fire Station #4, with a virtual session via Zoom on May 15. This initiative follows a grant received by the city to enhance vegetation and tree canopy along North and Swamp Creeks, recognizing the detrimental effects of stormwater runoff on local waterways. “The stewardship of streamside yards can have far-reaching impacts on the entire basin,” stated Apryl Hynes, an Everett senior public education specialist. The program aims to provide property owners with tools to combat erosion and flooding while improving the ecological health of streams.

Participants can learn about best practices for managing their yards to benefit the surrounding environment. For registration, visit snocd. org/streamside or contact the City of Everett directly. The Streamside Yard program is funded by the EPA Puget Sound Recovery National Program, indicating a strong commitment to local environmental health.
