Arrest made in 1984 cold case homicide

The Everett Police Department has made a pivotal arrest in the nearly 40-year-old homicide case of Judith "Judy" Weaver, who was found murdered in her home in 1984. Mitchell Gaff has been charged with first-degree murder after new DNA evidence linked him to the crime. Weaver, a 42-year-old mother and business owner, was discovered after firefighters responded to a report of a fire at her residence. This arrest has provided a sense of closure for Weaver's family and the Everett community, who have long awaited justice. Mayor Cassie Franklin expressed her condolences to Weaver's loved ones and commended the police for their ongoing commitment to solving cold cases.

Chief John DeRousse praised Detective Susan Logothetti for her tireless efforts in bringing the suspect to justice. Gaff is currently being held in the Snohomish County Jail, with charges filed in Superior Court. The community remains hopeful as the legal process unfolds, marking a significant moment in the pursuit of accountability for a tragic loss.
