On January 25, 2025, the Everett Police Department, in conjunction with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, arrested Joseph Andrew Jacquez for the 1989 murder of Mary Ann Daniels. This case, which has haunted the community for nearly 36 years, saw significant advancement thanks to modern DNA technology. Mary Ann, a 33-year-old disabled woman, was found murdered in her home on Hoyt Ave, a tragic event that left a lasting impact on her loved ones. Using Forensic Genetic Genealogy, investigators identified Jacquez through biological material left at the scene, including DNA from the weapon used in the crime. Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin commended law enforcement for their relentless pursuit of justice for victims like Mary Ann, expressing empathy for her grieving family.

Chief John DeRousse praised Detective Logothetti's perseverance in the investigation, emphasizing the department's commitment to addressing violent crime. The arrest highlights the importance of evolving forensic methods in solving cold cases. Jacquez is currently held in Clark County, Nevada, awaiting extradition to Snohomish County to face charges.
