Everett Fire Department Responds to Two Incidents of Children Falling from Third-Story Windows

Everett, WALocal News

The Everett Fire Department has responded to two alarming incidents of children falling from third-story windows, leading to significant injuries for both victims. The most recent case involved a 3-year-old boy who fell after leaning against a window screen, requiring hospitalization at Harborview Medical Center. Previously, a 4-year-old girl suffered similar fate when her window screen failed, though she was released shortly after treatment. Since the start of the year, Snohomish County has recorded six incidents of children falling from windows, with three occurring in Everett alone. This alarming trend highlights the necessity for enhanced window safety measures, particularly for toddlers aged two to five, who are at the highest risk.

Experts recommend that families talk about window safety, keep windows locked, and use child safety devices. The Everett Fire Department is also providing window stops to residents in need, thanks to community support. These proactive measures aim to prevent such accidents and ensure children’s safety at home.
