Everett Fire responds to crane accident at Everett Mall

The Everett Fire Department responded to a crane accident at Everett Mall on January 16, 2025, shortly before 10:00 a. m. The incident was initially reported as a sprinkler alarm, which was triggered when a large crane tipped over, damaging part of the building under construction. Two construction workers sustained injuries; one was treated on-site, while the other was taken to the hospital but has since been discharged. A second crane was brought in to assist with the removal of the damaged equipment, a task anticipated to take several days.

The Everett Fire Marshal's Office coordinated with structural and electrical engineers, as well as Snohomish County PUD, to ensure safety and assess the damage. This incident has raised concerns about construction safety protocols, prompting an investigation by the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries.
