Gary Sinise Foundation Amazon award Everett Fire 56K equipment grant

Everett, WALocal News

The Everett Fire Department has announced a grant exceeding $56,000 from the Gary Sinise Foundation and Amazon, aimed at replacing outdated Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) packs. This funding will standardize essential RIT equipment across all fire engines, significantly enhancing the department's ability to rescue trapped firefighters during emergencies. RIT packs are critical, containing vital tools such as a pressurized air bottle, SCBA mask, and a 200-foot rescue rope for effective rescues. Assistant Fire Chief Mike Calvert emphasized the importance of these upgrades for firefighter safety and interoperability with neighboring agencies, stating, "Updating our RIT tools is essential for our firefighters' safety in emergencies. " Dean Allsopp, Manager of Amazon Community Engagement, expressed appreciation for the Everett community's support and highlighted the company's commitment to local heroes.

The partnership with the Gary Sinise Foundation reflects a broader commitment to enhancing safety and operational readiness for first responders. Furthermore, all firefighters in the Everett Fire Department undergo annual training with RIT equipment, ensuring they are well-prepared for high-pressure situations. This grant represents a significant step in bolstering the safety infrastructure of emergency services in the region.
