Automated speed enforcement in Everett begins May 6
Starting May 6, 2024, Everett, Washington, will activate automated speed enforcement cameras in the school zone of Horizon Elementary along West Casino Road. A recent study revealed that over 10,000 vehicles were recorded speeding monthly when the school zone beacons were operational, prompting the city to take action. Following an initial awareness campaign and a 30-day warning period, the number of speeding vehicles has dropped significantly to around 2,500 per month. This initiative is a key component of Everett's Vision Zero strategy, which aims to eliminate traffic fatalities, particularly in school zones. City Traffic Engineer Corey Hert highlighted the program's role in enhancing traffic safety.
Furthermore, all proceeds from the enforcement efforts will be directed toward traffic safety projects, including improved crosswalks and school speed beacons. The city is committed to ensuring a safer environment for its residents, particularly children. More information about the enforcement program can be found on the City of Everett's website.
