New interactive sculpture, "Affirmation Station," installed downtown
The City of Everett has recently introduced a new interactive sculpture named "Affirmation Station," crafted by Colorado artist Timothy C. Flood. Located on Wetmore Avenue, this installation was made possible through special event revenue and lodging tax grants aimed specifically at enhancing public spaces. The sculpture functions as a pedestrian walk signal and features two permanent affirmations—“You Are Strong” and “You Are Important”—alongside an LED display that randomly showcases 124 different positive messages. Additionally, pressing a button on the sculpture activates one of 271 pre-recorded audio affirmations, such as “Give yourself some credit, you've come pretty far.
” Mayor Cassie Franklin expressed enthusiasm about the sculpture's ability to enrich the community and promote a sense of positivity at no cost to taxpayers. This project is part of a larger effort by the Cultural Arts Commission to improve the city’s cultural landscape, which was initiated when former commissioner Deb Fox discovered the concept in 2021. The installation is expected to encourage social media sharing and further highlight Everett as a vibrant destination.
