W Mukilteo Boulevard closed for 12 months for Edgewater Bridge replacement

Everett, WALocal News

The City of Everett has announced that Mukilteo Boulevard will be closed for a duration of 12 months, starting in late October 2024, to facilitate the construction of a new Edgewater Creek Bridge. This project comes in response to safety concerns regarding the current bridge, which is 78 years old and operates under weight restrictions. The total cost of the bridge replacement is projected at $34 million, with $28 million sourced from federal grants, emphasizing the project's importance to local infrastructure. City officials are proactively advising the community to review detour maps and prepare alternate routes to minimize traffic disruption during the closure. Dan Enrico, principal engineer for Everett Public Works, acknowledged the challenges posed by this traffic revision and emphasized the need for public preparedness.

Prior to the closure, portable messaging signs will be placed to inform drivers, and banners will be displayed in the area to alert residents. Portions of Edgewater Park will serve as construction staging areas, with promises of renovations once the new bridge is complete. For more information, residents can visit the City of Everett's website dedicated to the Edgewater Bridge Replacement Project.
