City of Everett now accepting proposals for Sculpture Lease Project

Everett, WALocal News

The City of Everett has unveiled a Sculpture Lease project designed to beautify public spaces in Downtown Everett by showcasing local artists' sculptures on a two-year lease. This initiative encourages artists to submit proposals that celebrate the city's cultural and artistic diversity, with applications open until October 15, 2024. Selected sculptures will be displayed in designated public areas, providing both visibility for artists and an enriched cultural landscape for residents and visitors. Each chosen artist will receive a stipend of $1,500, covering all expenses associated with the planning, creation, and maintenance of their sculptures during the lease period. The project is funded through COVID recovery allocations from Councilmember Judy Tuohy, underscoring the city's commitment to revitalizing public art amidst recovery efforts.

Tyler Chism, the city's placemaking program manager, shared his enthusiasm for the initiative, noting that new sculptures will enhance the vibrancy and cultural identity of Everett. This project not only beautifies the city but also fosters community engagement through art.
