Everett Water, Sewer and Stormwater Utility Rate Increase Adopted
The City of Everett has announced a utility rate increase effective February 1, 2025, to fund necessary upgrades to its water, sewer, and stormwater systems. This decision, adopted by the Everett City Council following a briefing, is vital for maintaining reliable utility services as many facilities are significantly outdated. Public Works Director Ryan Sass highlighted the challenge of balancing rate increases with the need for critical infrastructure improvements amidst rising construction costs. The city is currently constructing an $80 million drinking water reservoir and upgrading its 40-year-old Water Filtration Plant. Furthermore, Everett is working to comply with an Ecology Agreed Order to minimize combined sewer overflows into Port Gardner Bay.
This includes constructing a new underground sewer storage tank and redeveloping the old wastewater treatment plant, with costs projected at $200 million. The utility rate adjustments reflect the city’s commitment to meet regulatory requirements while ensuring residents receive dependable services. The complete list of rates and details about the funded capital projects can be found on the city’s utility website.
