Snohomish County Donates Surplus Vehicles to Local Nonprofits
Snohomish County has announced the donation of surplus vehicles to three local nonprofits, marking the first implementation of a new vehicle donation policy approved in October 2023. The Washington West African Center, Holman Recovery Center, and North Counties’ Family Services received vehicles that are in good working condition and under 60,000 miles. Council Vice Chair Megan Dunn expressed pride in supporting nonprofits that face transportation challenges, stating that these vehicles will significantly enhance their service capabilities. The donation agreement requires organizations to utilize the vehicles for transporting low-income individuals or providing essential services to those in need. County Executive Dave Somers praised the initiative as a sustainable solution for surplus vehicles, emphasizing its positive community impact.
Rachael McNiel, Fleet Services Division Manager, noted that while the vehicles reached replacement thresholds, they still hold substantial utility for the nonprofits. Interested organizations can apply for future donations through the county's online portal, ensuring continued support for those serving vulnerable populations. The program not only aids nonprofits but also fosters a collaborative community spirit in Snohomish County.
