Stormwater Management Program Plan (SWMP) open for public comment

Everett, WALocal News

The City of Everett has opened the public comment period for its 2025 Stormwater Management Program Plan (SWMP) until March 14, 2025, inviting community feedback on vital environmental strategies. The SWMP highlights actions taken in 2024 to minimize stormwater runoff and ensure compliance with the Western Washington Phase II Municipal Stormwater Permit. This initiative is crucial for maintaining the health of Everett's waterways, which include Lake Washington, the Snohomish River, and Port Gardner Bay. Residents are encouraged to report pollution incidents and participate in volunteer opportunities to actively contribute to stormwater management efforts. The Public Works Department is available 24/7 for any pollution-related concerns or observations of illegal discharges.

The city spans 22 distinct drainage basins, making local engagement essential for effectively managing stormwater pollution. By promoting private stormwater management and community awareness, Everett aims to protect its natural resources and enhance the quality of life for its citizens. The SWMP also provides a downloadable map of drainage basins and watersheds, empowering residents with knowledge about their environment.
