New Interactive Sculpture "Affirmation Station" Installed in Downtown Everett

Everett, WALocal News

The City of Everett has launched "Affirmation Station," an engaging interactive sculpture created by artist Timothy C. Flood, designed to uplift the community and enhance public spaces. Funded by 2023 special event revenue and lodging tax grants, this installation features a pedestrian walk signal design with three displays that convey positive affirmations such as "You Are Strong" and "You Are Important. " Additionally, it has an LED matrix that scrolls through 124 different messages, allowing for a diverse range of affirmations. Visitors can interact with the sculpture by pressing a button that activates one of 271 audio affirmations, each tailored to inspire and motivate.

Mayor Cassie Franklin highlighted the importance of this art piece in fostering a sense of community and joy, all while ensuring no cost to taxpayers. Originally proposed by former Cultural Arts Commissioner Deb Fox in 2021, the sculpture reflects a commitment to enhancing Everett’s cultural landscape. The installation not only serves as a visual attraction but also promotes inclusivity and optimism among residents and visitors alike. For artists interested in contributing to Everett's art scene, the city is currently accepting applications for leasing sculptures for display downtown.
