Traffic Safety Program Seeks to Reduce Severe Crashes in Everett

Everett, WALocal News

Everett, Washington, is preparing to implement an automated traffic safety camera program this spring, designed to mitigate severe traffic crashes and enhance safety in designated school zones and high-risk intersections. The first camera installation will occur on West Casino Road, directly in front of Horizon Elementary School. Six additional intersections have been identified for red-light cameras due to their history of crashes, including Broadway and 16th Street and Evergreen Way and Casino Road. In an effort to foster community awareness, the Public Works team is conducting outreach through community meetings and distributing multilingual materials. A 30-day grace period will precede the issuance of citations, allowing drivers to adjust to the new enforcement measures.

The program's funding will be strictly utilized for traffic safety enhancements within the city. City traffic engineer Corey Hert emphasized the program's potential to alter driving habits and reduce serious injury crashes. This initiative underscores Everett's commitment to creating a safer driving environment for all residents.
