Working smoke alarm alerts residents to evacuate Everett duplex fire no injuries

Everett, WALocal News

Around 2:40 p. m. today, the Everett Fire Department quickly responded to a duplex fire in the 5800 block of Fleming Street. Residents had reported smoke and the activation of a smoke alarm, prompting immediate action from emergency responders. Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from the siding and soon located the main fire within the common wall between two units.

Thanks to a functioning smoke alarm, all residents safely evacuated prior to the arrival of firefighters, with no injuries reported to either residents or emergency personnel. The Red Cross is assisting five residents, including two adults and three children, who have been displaced by the incident. Preliminary investigations suggest the fire may be related to an electrical issue with a wall heater, although the exact cause remains under investigation. The Everett Fire Department highlights the critical role of smoke alarms in saving lives, particularly during nighttime emergencies. For residents in need, the department offers a free smoke alarm program for low-income individuals, seniors, and those with disabilities.
