More housing and commercial development coming to Everetts riverfront

Everett, WALocal News

The Everett City Council approved a revised master plan for the Riverfront Development on May 1, allowing Shelter Holdings to initiate a mixed-use project that includes a movie theater, specialty grocer, 1,250 multi-family housing units, a 250-room hotel, and office space, along with a 3-acre park. Mayor Cassie Franklin highlighted the project’s potential to attract new residents and jobs to the city. The Riverfront district comprises three development parcels, with the Simpson and Mill sites already developed by Polygon Northwest. The project will incorporate public amenities that enhance environmental quality, such as trails and wetland restoration. Originally approved in 2009, the master plan aimed to repurpose former industrial sites and improve access along the Snohomish River.

The amended plan reflects current economic conditions and consumer habits and underwent a full public review process. The project will be developed in six phases, with construction on the first phase expected to start this summer. This development signifies a significant step toward urban revitalization in Everett.
